A little background information!
The colony was originally founded by Peter Minuit under the Dutch, who established the colony for reasons of trade and gaining wealth. The English soon conquered the colony, presenting it as a gift to the Duke of York. The main city in the colony was renamed from New Amsterdam to New York City. And the colony that used to be called New Netherlands was named New York.
One of the most important events that happened to the colony was the founding of "The Albany" (Congress) in 1754, for the purpose of to try to secure the support and cooperation of the Iroquois in fighting the French, and to form a colonial alliance based on a design by Benjamin Franklin.
